What a difference a little difference would make.

Well, so much for THAT idea. I couldn't update yesterday after all. Here's page four. My favourites on this page are the second and fourth panels...hee hee. He SO totally deserved that. XD

Now if I may, a short rant about music. There are an awful lot of bands that sound the same today. Not just bands that rip off Joy Division, but bands that rip off EACH OTHER. They're just influenced by whatever came right before them, so music keeps getting more and more homogenised and crappier and crappier. Case in point: Interpol (who rip off Joy Division) and The Editors (who sound like they have ONLY listened to Interpol). There are more examples, this is just the only one I feel like quoting right now.. XD

However...someone I know at school was disappointed that he missed The Killers on some late night talk show...Keep in mind that this guy listens mostly to Tom Waits. He said "It's funny...I should hate the Killers and want them dead, but I like them.." I feel much the same way about Interpol. (AND the Killers, actually). How embarrassing... :s Similarly, The Editors have a couple of really good songs. (What was my point in this rant? It kind of went nowhere...sorry... XD)

The air is full of harmonies but is anyone even singing right?

Decision time. Normally I won't update this blog on weekends. But I'm making an exception this time because I want to finish posting these comic pages before the month is over. I dunno if this is really such a good idea because I don't seem to do things this detailed very often, (at least, not as often as I'd LIKE) so October's archives might look SO much better in comparison to stuff I upload after...sigh... XD :/

Um, but seriously, I never finished this page. Yes, I did these out of order. It can't be that uncommon...there must be SOMEBODY else who does that, somewhere out there. Please say there is. But if not, it's MY comic, I can do whateverthefuck I want to with it. Right? ;)

By the way, I really hate all the hatching and black blob thingies in the last panel. Oh well.

There's nothing accidental in this song.

Hmmm. Site/computer is being glitchy again. Oh well, this looks like it still worked. This here is a drawing to accompany the Fall song "Disney's Dream Debased" (I do lots of these Fall-related pictures, get used to it... :s) which I was asked to illustrate for...uh...some book or other. I'm confused as to what it is now. I thought it was just a book of Fall lyrics, but now it seems there's ANOTHER book coming out soon which is "short stories based on Fall songs".

But as far as I know this one is still Fall lyrics. And it's coming out around Christmastime. MAYBE. Whenever it comes out is when I get paid for the drawings I did. (I did one for "DKTR Faustus" as well. Correction: It DOES have something to do with the song. DUH. I feel so dumb now. XD) Maybe.

Mmm...how convenient it is that I'd be asked to illustrate this song, no? ;p The song is about (so the story goes) an incident at Disneyland where someone was decapitated on one of the rides, and MES and his then-wife Brix were there...and there were people dressed in the character costumes standing around trying to comfort everyone, but of course they couldn't say anything while in costume...

Here is a Snopes entry on the subject, which says it IS true and not a myth (I'm guessing it was the 1984 incident).

I asked James, my animation instructor, if I'd get in trouble for this drawing (copyrights etc.) and he said "Nope...not unless Foxy comes back."

We'll put our blankets on the floor, until the power gets restored.

The second page of These Days "issue 3." Reminding me, once again, just how long it's been since I've drawn a comic page, and how much I miss it...*sigh*

Oh well. Someday soon I'll start again. I have a new comic in the works, which unfortunately has already been "in the works" for about a year with not a single page drawn. Having zero confidence in my writing skills really makes things difficult. I'll be the first to admit I'm NOT a writer. I just draw. At the rate I'm going, this thing will probably take at least another 2 years to finish writing. That's fine, because I know it will be all the better for it, but still...I WANNA DRAW, DAMMIT!!! :(

EXTERMINATE!!!

Yeah...er...here's a totally random thing. Which requires lots of explanation, so here goes...

This is a picture I finished last week of Sonic the Hedgehog fighting the Daleks from Doctor Who, coloured totally in pencil crayons. It was for a "drawing jam" at school where the theme was "crossovers" (which, er, was kind of my idea). And actually I've been wanting to draw this picture for months. Apparently only me and two other people at school know what Daleks are. One person thought they looked like lighthouses and another thought they looked like salt and pepper shakers...

But anyway, this is a plausible crossover because Sonic usually fights robots anyway. Or USED to...and that's another thing. I hate what Sonic has become. I haven't played any of the newer Sonic games and I detest Sonic X. (Which is kind of weird, since in this picture Sonic looks a lot like the way he does in Sonic X...YIKES!!) Like a lot of people, I miss the old SatAM cartoon. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a DVD box set of it because it looks like it'll never happen.. :/ I totally dig the Fleetway universe too, which probably has more to do with my intense love of all things British than anything else. ;)

As for Doctor Who, unfortunately I've only seen the new series and a few episodes of one older one...in colour...heh. Yeah. Sorry. I felt really guilty for liking the new series because I knew that the old hardcore fans must've just hated it. Though I did talk to one person who said they liked it BETTER than the older ones. Paul tells me they're making a spinoff of it called "Torch Wood" (an anagram of "Doctor Who") about Captain Jack...the American pilot..who I had totally forgotten about. Probably because I didn't like him. I won't be watching that spinoff. ;p

In this picture Sonic and the Daleks are in the Metropolis Zone from Sonic 2. Which I chose because it has a space-age techy-looking layout, and because green is my favourite colour (but this picture came out WAY TOO GREEN!! ARGH!! MY EYES!!). But oh, how I hated Act 3 of that level. I'm done babbling now! Yay!

It pays to talk to no one.

Hmmm. Where to begin with this picture? I know I finished it in January, but I started it before that. But let's start with the background information, instead.

For most of 2004 I drew a comic called "These Days" which I collaborated on writing with Roz, a gal from San Francisco. It was about (are you ready for this?) the adventures of the "ghost" of Ian Curtis from Joy Division in the present-day "land of the living." For no apparent reason, Mark E. Smith from the Fall becomes his "tour guide" and...hilarity ensues! No, really. It WAS actually pretty funny. If only because the whole premise was so absurd.

I drew two "issues" of These Days before animation school started, and by that time I was left with no time to draw comics. But I did complete about 5 pages of "issue three" before abandoning the whole thing altogether. And I never posted any of them anywhere, so I might as well post them here.

I'd still like to finish this comic someday...even though I completely changed the character designs (to reflect a more "animation" looking style...hmm...is that a good thing or a bad thing?). I DID figure out a way to make that work in the story, however, and I'll explain it once I post the last page I finished.

I still like this page. It pretty much sums up exactly why I love drawing comics. And always will.

So lose some sleep and say you tried.

And now folks, I give you...Beatnik Sheep. Oh, I threw in a creepy armadillo guy too, just for the hell of it. This is hardly an original idea, I think it's rather Far Side-ish. And I think I want to do an entire illustration with these guys. Weird. And why does a sheep need a sweater? ;p

(The head in the upper right hand corner was drawn solely to test a brushpen...agh!! These Micron brushpens kind of suck. Or maybe _I_ just suck... ;p)

EGADS.

Wow. This site is really buggy on my computer for some reason. But I THINK it should work now. THINK. Hope so. Let's try one more time before I give up for the day.

I once had a Livejournal account, but I like the idea of being able to upload pictures right into my blog as opposed to uploading them on Photobucket first and then having to link back to them. Shrug. So this will be my new sketchblog.

To start off, here's a drawing of Mark E. Smith from the Fall, who I draw far too much. He's just so easy to make into a cartoon...This drawing is actually pretty old. I'm guessing it's from April of this year, or thereabouts. If I can get this to work, my next post will have some newer art in it, promise.
